On December 2 and 3, scenes from treasured Christmas stories will come to life in Downtown Hillsboro during “A Storybook Christmas,” presented by Imagine Hillsboro. Beloved characters from stories old and new will fill the streets. Expect to run into Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, the Polar Express Conductor, Rudolph, Harry Potter, the Nutcracker and more during the festivities. Be on the lookout for the return of the Grinch as he attempts to steal Christmas from Hillsboro again!
Friday night’s activities will kick off at 5 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. A lighted Christmas parade will begin on Main Street at 6 p.m. The community Christmas tree will be lit for the season in a short ceremony at 7 p.m. on Lincoln Plaza. Throughout the evening live entertainment including carolers, dancers, and musicians, will perform on Lincoln Plaza. Hot food and drinks will be available and many downtown businesses will have extended hours.
If you are looking for those perfect Christmas gifts, local vendors will be selling a variety of handmade and homemade goods, including jewelry, clothing, home décor, soap and personal care items, in the Hillsboro Moose Lodge on both Friday night and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The fun will continue on Saturday, December 3. Kids will have the chance to join Santa for breakfast at the Moose from 8 to 10 a.m. and visit with Santa at the Santa House on Lincoln Plaza until 2 p.m. The MW Carriage Company will be offering horse-drawn carriage rides around downtown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A free Christmas movie will be shown at the Orpheum Theatre with showings at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Live music and entertainment, including a chainsaw carving demonstration from Chris Hubbart will take place on Lincoln Plaza throughout the day.
